Why It Matters

The Blessingway (Hozhooji) is the most important Navajo ceremony, restoring hozho — beauty, balance, and harmony — to a person who has fallen out of it through illness or difficult transitions. All Navajo ceremonies derive from the Blessingway tradition.

How It Is Observed

Two-night ceremony by a hataalii (singer/healer), sweat bath purification, all-night singing of Blessingway songs, pollen blessing, corn pollen road of pollen ceremony, dawn prayer.
